June 2016 – Owl Summer Camp Updates
We have had a wonderful first week of summer camp! The kids spent a lot of time working on their sensory skills and following directions in our 3 sand tables and 2 water tables/pool! This session (3 weeks), our theme is the beach, hence the sand and water. We have read The Rainbow Fish this week, danced to the Little Mermaid sound track, made books about fish, and dot painted fish for a following direction activity. During language time we also worked on correctly using the pronouns: him/her, and she/he all while staying on our beach theme!
The kids have also been as patient as they can as they adjust to the new summer schedule, and a school day without Ms. Vikki as their lead teacher. Luckily for us all, Ms. Vikki still gets to spend some time in the classroom on Tuesdays and Thursday’s working with individual students. We have also welcomed two new students for the summer and we are so pleased to have them! Just like every student, they add their own strengths and traits to the classroom, making it even more wonderful :).
This coming week we will be having a full blown water day where we will ask you to pack bathing suits and towels. If for any reason you would not like your child to participate in water day, please let us know. There will be a notification of what day it will be at the sign in table.
Thank you, everyone, for participating in the “sign in/sign out sheet.” This is an easier way for us to keep track of when students are arriving and leaving. We hope that you all had a wonderful week yourselves and we look forward to another great week of summer camp!
May 2016 – Wolf Pup Updates
Greetings from the den Wolf Pup parents! We hope you all are well! The children did great during our family unit. One of the many activities of the month was a family tree during circle. The children would pick a family member picture from a mailbox, tell their peers what they picked and put it on the tree. We also used toy families to work on prepositional “hide and seek.” The children would have to listen for directions to find the family member. For example, “Daddy is UNDER the table.” We will continue to incorporate activities like this in our other units. We will be talking about farms for the next few weeks! Be ready to here “old McDonald” at home! This is a great unit for the children to work on a variety of sounds. So far this week week we have used scooters to find farm animals and looked for farm animals in shaving cream. It will be a fun month!
As the weather warms up we will have water play outside during recess. The children may come home a little wet! You may send in a change of clothes if you like.
Upcoming Dates:
There was an error on the school calendar. We are OPEN Wednesday the 25th. We are closed May 30th for the Memorial Day holiday
Thank you! Please feel free to let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
April 2016 – Wolf Pup Updates
Greetings from the den wolf pup parents!!! We are busy enjoying the spring weather at school. For a few weeks we will be talking about Flowers in our class. For sensory we have been digging in soil filling up buckets and looking for plastic bugs. For pretend play we have been exploring a garden prop box where the children can pretend they are planting fake flowers and taking care of the garden. Last week we planted grass seeds, so we will be watching them to see if they grow! During gross motor the children have worked on taking turns to toss bean bags onto a large flower and tossing fake flowers on our Parachute.
Next week we will begin talking about families. Please send in a photo of your family! I will hang these up in our circle time area. I will return the picture after we are done with this theme.
As the weather is warming up we recommend putting sunscreen on your children before school. You may also send in a bottle of sunscreen to school.
Reminder: TEACHER WORKDAY THURSDAY APRIL 28th. School will be closed.
As usual I have attached a few pictures of our mornings! We had a bunny hop, dress up, and lots of dirt play!
Let us know if you have any questions!
March 2016 – Wolf Pup Updates
Greetings from the Den, Wolf Pup Parents!
We have had a great few weeks wrapping up our winter unit and discussing weather! The children have enjoyed exploring different weather projects and activities. The projects have included a deconstructed rainbow and a water color rainbow. We will finish off the weather unit by making a sand sun. This will turn out beautiful and is also a great sensory activity. The book, “It looked like Spilt Milk” by Charles G Shaw was a huge hit with the children! Check it outbid you get a chance. We continue to use opportunities throughout the morning to work on sharing and using words/signs to communicate wants/needs. I have attached pictures for you to see the kids working together with sorting and working on their fine motor projects!
I put a slip of all the dates of our summer camp in your child’s bag this week. Please let us know if you have any questions about summer sessions.

February 2016 – Wolf Pup Updates
Greetings from the Den Wolf pup parents!
We have had so much fun exploring activities during our Valentines theme! We have been on a heart hunt, sorting hearts by color, searching for hearts in pink shaving cream, and making different heart crafts! This week during circle we will give the children an introduction to emotions. They each will have a turn looking in a small mirror and attempt to make a happy, sad, mad, or surprised face. Today the children thought it was very silly to make the surprised face! On Wednesday and Thursday we will celebrate Valentine’s Day with a small special snack during snack time. If there are any treats you would like to donate feel free to let us know!
Thank you so much!
January 2016 – Wolf Pup Updates
Greeting from the den Wolf Cub parents!
We hope your week has started off well. We have another fun week planned for the wolf Cubs. We will continue with our “winter” theme. It definitely is starting to feel more like winter so this is just a friendly reminder to please send your child to school with the appropriate winter wear! We will go outside on most days. This week we will be making a few different snowmen! The children will make a paper bag snowman and a salt snowman! This is a great opportunity to go over identifying body parts and exploring new sensory activities. We have been using cotton balls as “snow” during our parachute gross motor activity. This has become a favorite activity for the kids. We will continue with fine motor activities incorporating our winter theme. The children are working on making snowflakes using masking tape!
Next Monday and Tuesday (January 18th and 19th) there will be no school because of parent teacher conferences. Please be on the lookout for the sign up sheets as you come into the Aspen Center. Also, our monthly news letter will be coming home with your child this week.
Thank you so much and see you soon!
